2 Corinthians 5:19 - That is, in Christ, God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and he has committed the message of reconciliation to us.
Jesus’s life, death, burial, and resurrection was not just a great demonstration of God’s love for mankind. It was not just example of selflessness for us to follow. The finished work of Jesus Christ actually accomplished something, namely, the reconciliation of mankind back to God. In Genesis 3, the Fall, Adam and Eve’s sin separated mankind from the harmonious and intimate relationship with God that was intended at creation. Original sin and our own personal sin keeps us separated from God in this life and all of eternity. This passage summarizes the Gospel message that the finished work of Jesus Christ reconciles all of those who believe in Jesus back to our Creator.
God’s promise of a reconciled relationship with Him is the good news we are sharing whenever we share our faith in Jesus Christ. The Apostle Paul states in this passage that the message we share about Jesus is one of reconciliation. The broken relationship mankind has with God has resulted in the brokenness we see in creation. The Good News is that Jesus is the answer to all of this brokenness and by faith in Christ Jesus we have intimacy with our Heavenly Father in this life and the guarantee of eternal life with Him.
