Why Baptism?

Baptism is an “act of obedience” to  Jesus Christ; whereby the believer publicly identifies with the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

BELIEVER'S BAPTISM

Baptism is an “act of obedience” to  Jesus Christ and His Apostles (Matthew 28:19-20; Acts 2:38; 10:48; 22:16) whereby the believer publicly identifies with the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. In Baptism the believer’s death to sin, the burial of their old life, and the resurrection to walk in newness of life in Christ Jesus is publicly displayed. It also testifies to the believer’s faith in the final resurrection of the dead (Romans 6:4-11).

According to Acts 8:26-38; 10:1-48; 16:25-34, baptism was the first response of the “NEW” believer, as a follower of the Lord Jesus Christ. As such, the believer is baptized so that their identity is in Christ and he/she pledges to publicly live under the authority of Jesus Christ. Thus, it is “not necessary” for a believer in Jesus Christ who has already been baptized after placing faith in Jesus Christ to be baptized again.

Lastly, Baptism in and of itself does not save. Trust in Jesus Christ saves!  (Luke 23:4-43; Ephesians 2:8-10; Acts 16:31) However, Baptism serves as an outward expression and a testimony to the world of the believer’s faith in Jesus Christ. The new believer is publicly declaring that he/she belongs to Jesus!
