HOW DO I GROW?
Followers of Jesus Christ are called to continually grow as disciples as we are conformed into the image of Jesus Christ.
SPIRITUAL GROWTH
Followers of Jesus Christ are called to continually grow as disciples as we are conformed into the image of Jesus Christ. This process is called sanctification, spiritual growth, spiritual maturity or even godliness. While this work is done primarily by the power of the Holy Spirit, we as Christians can participate in various disciplines that help shape and mold us.
As 1 Timothy 4:6-7 shows us, Godliness is beneficial in all things for this life now and leads to eternal life. Godliness is living out the life of Jesus Christ. This word describes faith in Christ being worked out in everyday living. Simply put, it’s Living like Jesus! Believers are to intentionally train in godliness because it benefits all things in this life and holds the promise of eternal life.
Here are some Spiritual Disciplines for training in Godliness and towards Godliness:
-
Bible Intake – reading, listening to and studying the Bible.
-
Prayer (Fasting, Silence and Solitude) – intentional time focusing on and dialoguing with God
-
Worship – expressing God’s worthiness publicly and privately in celebration of who God is and what He has done.
-
Fellowship – spending time and sharing life with other Christians.
-
Evangelism – verbally sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ with unbelievers.
-
Serving – helping out in and meeting the needs of the church and the community.
-
Stewardship – generously and sacrificially using your finances, resources and skills to further the mission of God.
-
Journaling (Memorial Stones) – noting what God has done so that it can be remembered in times of doubt.
-
Learning (Theological Education) – learning and studying the broader scope of theology, history and Biblical teaching in all disciplines of life.
These disciplines have a cumulative result in training disciples of Jesus Christ in Godliness.
