The next step following Baptism is Discipleship! This occurs within the Church. The church is the body and bride of Christ, formed by the baptism of the Holy Spirit and existing in two aspects, universal and local. The universal church consists of believers at all times in all places, baptized by the Holy Spirit into one body.

 

The local church is a group of believers voluntarily joined together locally in the spirit of love and unity to worship God with praise and thanksgiving, observing the two ordinances of Christ, governed by His laws, exercising the gifts, rights, and privileges invested in them by His word. Discipleship is the local church’s process of progressively moving Christians from spiritual infancy to spiritual maturity so that they are able to repeat the process with someone else. It is learning to progressively live all of life under the Lordship of Jesus Christ.
